How I temporarily "fixed" a stuck injector on my X15
So before I post what I did, this should be done as a temporary solution if you are
suspecting an Injector(s) aren't firing properly and/or outright failed, the final solution will always be to replace them, especially if clear symptoms are present like heavy black or white smoke when snapping the throttle.. At the very minimum pull it out and check if the spray pattern isn't quitely destroying your piston(s)..
The reason for this story. I have had a major symptom pop up recently that my Pyro was running about 100 degrees higher on hills.
Truck has a conservative Rawze tune which in lower elevation sustained pulls would be about 900° and up to 1000° in higher elevation. So obviously hitting 1100 with a light load and even lighter shoes sending me alarm bells... In very rare instances the engine would "hydrolock" when shutting down but start normally immediately afterward so I already very suspicious.. After going through a couple manifolds from a bad injector the year before I was determined to nip this in the butt..

So here's what I did only using Insite using the cut out test and leak down tests.
-With the engine somewhat warm at idle I started the cut out test on each cylinder one at a time and noted which injectors I suspected.
-Then I did the opposite and ran the test so only one injector is firing the engine repeating it a few times through all cylinders for a minute or so and note which ones if multiple.
-Run the fuel rail leak down test for a good minute or so and checked the leak down rate <4000psi/minute, mine about 500-1000psi a minute.
-Start the engine up and check for noisy/dead injectors and repeat the cutout tests both ways now that 30k psi had just gone through them. it was this step I found a noisy one and noted it for replacement.
- For good measure I resetted the injector drivers in each one, they do glitch out and this is equivalent to clearing your cache partitions on your phone/pc atleast that's how I like to think of it..
-Lastly I double dosed the fuel with Power Service (Gray Bottle) after doing the above..

If you're running higher horsepower, have a conservative tune made as a back up, especially if the truck is being driven by someone else.. I'll admit back then I was too arrogant to ask the man for a conservative tune instead of being proactive, and having a back up that still gets the job done. Rant aside, this is how I "Fixed" an injector in turn fixing the dangerously high EGT. Like I said up top, ALWAYS replace failing/failed injectors with OEM only!!
So far everything is running good and cooler, but how long until the symptoms return? That's a question that only time can answer.. Hope this will help anybody in a pinch or atleast buy some time.. I'm beginning to think this could be done every 6 months like the EGR tune-up should be done to keep everything in order and/find potential trouble before it comes and bites you when you're most vulnerable...
