X15 Jake brake is weak at times
Hey all,

Got a 2021 Pete 389, 3.42 rears, eaton 18spd, X15 565/1850 w/ 610k miles, demandated @ 330k but still has VGT. Jakes were working great until recently and now sometimes boost up to 25-28psi but other times only up to 10psi.

I do not currently have access to insite or calterm, don’t even have an inline-6 link. But I can if necessary. Just trying to save a trip to the shop if this is something I can solve myself.

For added info, there’s little to no blow-by, only needs about 2 quarts of oil between changes @ 15k intervals, not losing coolant (other than some cold leaks this winter). Oil pressure has been around 30-32 psi @ operating temp since new. Never been over 240* even when pulling hills. Coolant never over 210*. Also had a recent overhead @ 606k (jake issue was happening before this).

Is this just a case of the turbo vanes getting soot packed and not working right? Boost when pulling maxes out at 39 @ 1500rpm (yes, stupid high, I know) but I regularly climb between 1700-1800 where it sits about 32-33psi.

without insite its anyone's guess and you would just be throwing parts at it and likely wasting money.. could be a bad tune it could be a failing turbo actuator or it could be as simple as the exhaust gas pressure sensor or many other things ... do your self a favor and get insite. I have seen the exhaust gas pressure sensor cause those problems more often then not. but it is impossible to properly diagnose without access to the live engine data and codes from insite, no one will be able to verify your tune without calterm and a inline adapter. for the money you will waste at a likely poor shop you could own your very own inline adapter from ebay which will likely come with insite on a disk.

If your making 39 psi of boost on a demandated X15, you have a bad demandate in that ECM!! Your Jake problems aside, the first thing you need to do is get that program copied out and sent to Rawze for review. Your going to crack the head or a piston if you keep driving it like that. 33 psi is about as high as it should ever be.

240 + oil temps and 39+ PSI boost = Another victim of a BAD DELETE!!!.

YOUR KILLING THAT ENGINE INTO AN AGONIZING DEATH SPIRAL!!!>

Get CT and copy that program from the ecm and e-mailed it nto me for review, / straightened out ASAP!... hopefully not too much internal damage has not already been done.
