The red engine maker was playing around with wedge offsets during those early CM870 days in attempts to get the higher HP engines to pass emissions standards.

Those 2 programs are indeed identical internally, yet the CLP's call for 2 different timing wedges. - Possibly a mistake on their part? .. or something else ... Only the red engine maker knows why this is, and/or how hard it would be on the engine itself at the end of the day.
