I would recommend to buy some cheap dedicated laptop that you use only for those diagnostic related stuff because software found on the internet may contain nasty extras...

Myself I use more than 10 year old business grade laptops that have 14" screen and magnesium alloy housing. Bought those laptops when they were like 3-4 years old and costed me 100-200 used back then depending in how good of a visual shape they were. Batteries last almost 10 hours...
