Can electric lift pump throw metal shavings in the fuel filter? Does it have metal-to-metal friction inside?

If you're well above 400k on the engine, I'd investigate the fuel pump for damage if you haven't done so already!

I think he's talking about the electric priming pump not the high pressure pump.

Yes it can go bad and put metal in the fuel filter.
