QSX15 hard start/extended crank times w/black smoke
QSX15 CM2350 X105/ 610DT Versatile 1500 operating hours. Owner info, Used only during planting season, Tractor has seemed to under-perform all its life since new, DManned by unknown suspect when new by dealer, (long-story)
1)The latest issue showed itself 5 days ago during planting. Hard Start/Extended and variable crank times both hot and cold. 2)Then planting rained out, 3) owner service fuel filter and air filters=no change to cranking issue.4)So owner dropped off, I connected, inactive fault codes i.e.559,5576,6583,285,3326,5663,197,235,689,778,115,3737, 2 active i.e. 6263,6472 fan control codes, (tractor has no fan controls).

4)Connected to "remote access and control" and a this Forum known tuner had file checked and repaired in effort to start fresh and as preventive start. Tractor put into service with only active fan control faults showing. Tractor performs in field nicely and satisfactory during and after 300 acre check in.
5)Tuning updates did not effect hard start/extended and variable crank times/ w/black smoke

6)Maybe unrelated but seemed odd. Can someone shed light on Insite Exhaust Gas Temperature (calculated)
What specific/inputs/sensors does CI utilize to arrive at value.
Cold Start @40 degrees ambient temperature day.
While cranking C.I. shows EGTC variable values of 550 to 750 degrees.
7)Does this seem correct?
During full pull 60' air/seeder 70+ rows EGTC show 1250+
Will try to post crank video.Cummins X15 extended crankFaultsFaults2

note: The photo's are pre-file update. The video is post update.

RE: QSX15 hard start/extended crank times w/black smoke
first of all, assume the old programming is bad + harmful to the engine. More than 90+% pof all de-mandate programming is.

If you still suspect programming as part of the issue, simply copy the file out and email a copy of what someone did in there.
info: https://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?...5#pid72945

Who knows what kind of progressive damage to the engine and/or turbo may have setting in with the bad delete programming it likely had in it.

======================

next, 559 code IS A VERY SERIOUS FAULT!. If the fuel pump itself is going bad, then it destroys the entire engine with it. It is nothing to ignore.

Someone needs to pull the fuel pump head off and inspect it for damage and/or pitting of the pump crankshaft, and do plunger tests while they are at it.
ref: https://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?...8#pid60008

Those fuel pumps need to be rebuilt every 8,000 hours or 400,000 miles, whichever comes first ... even if they look nice inside, to prevent engine destruction without any warning.

======================

NEXT: Will it pass a proper injector leak-down test at 29,000 PSI? .. to the test exactly as this video shows and see what the leak rate is...
