RE: Front Housing Cover Oil Leak
Replaced the front gear cover gasket today (It's a long rectangular seal with an overlap at the top left corner). I had let the original sit for another night and noticed another drip of oil coming down the ledge above the front crank seal.

Once I removed the cover, you could see where the oil had passed the seal and was working it's way through the bottom. The seal itself def felt a little hard.

- Cleaned the surfaces and inspected the cover for any fractures, which there appeared to be none. Installed the new seal, put a little RTV on the overlap up top, and tightened it down. I think it was 23ft/lb that Cummins called for to secure the cover.

RE: Front Housing Cover Oil Leak
Just as a follow up to this thread from last December... We've put nearly 70k miles since this repair and the gear cover gasket (not the front housing gasket in this case), along with the front crank seal replacement has solved the leak. Doing great ever since.

If any of you guys happen to have an oil leak running down the front of the oil pan, you may very well have a front crank seal and/or front cover issue...... much easier than the front housing gasket. Just something to check before going straight to the front housing gasket.
