What happened to that engine Nostalgic? I vaguely remember that build thread.

Copy the file from ECM and send it for a review. Bad programming is most likely reason behind high oil temps...

Unless you have sent your programming for a review like mentioned in that thread OR you had tuning done by reputable persons written there you have to assume the programming is bad and is the most likely culprit behind your high oil temperature !!!

It's sitting in my basement haha. I should have never used the block I bought and had to have decked. No clue on the life it lead prior to me, but it was a rough one.

In '21?, I bought a new block kit, new crank, etc with all OE Cummins parts and built an entire long block to drop in.

Classic -13k
Pro-29k
Elite-44k
pro/elite come with reman parts including the water/fuel pump, and head… rods on the elite.
None of which include turbo, cam, dampener or oil cooler.

If you can get the wrist pin bushings done (connecting rods) at a reputable place + verify they are in spec and consistent after, then the classic kit + sourcing your own OEM reman head, but in a new-head crate, so that you get a new one without having to pay extra for it is how I would approach it.

The key is to focus on only those parts where the head does not have to come off it again. All other parts like overhead cams, pump, etc. can be addressed at a later date, as needed, to help spread out the costs.

================

As far as oil cooler goes, ... NO!.. a lower thermostat in the oil cooler is NOT what to do. It only serves to mask actual problem(s), + only serves to introduce accelerated oxidation issues in the end.

if it is going bad, replacing it while everything is apart is not a bad idea, if it is suspect, but WITH ONLY THE SAME, OEM, CORRECT ONE THOUGH.

If the oil tempos are getting higher than about 235-238~ish(F) or so in long hill pulls, then the issues are somewhere else, and need to be found, (and not guessed at blindly) ... not band-aiding it with a different temp oil cooler thermostat.
